A 23-year-old man committed suicide under mysterious circumstances after jumping from a five-storeyed building in Delhi, the police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. when the man identified as Pankaj Kumar was seen asking locals about the way to railway tracks in Laxmi Nagar of east Delhi.

"Pankaj was residing with his parents in School Block of Laxmi Nagar area. He was not keeping well since 2013 after he appeared at Class XII examination," a senior police officer said.

According to his family, he was in depression since last month. This was apparently the reason he took the extreme step, the officer said.

"Pankaj was taken to nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment," the officer added.
