A 30-year-old man on Thursday allegedly killed his wife before hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house here, police said.
Ram Chandra and his 28-year-old wife, Neetu, were found dead by their neighbour, Md. Amir, around 4 a.m., police said.
The incident took place in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar.
Amir told police that he was going to use the washroom when he heard the cries of the Chandra couple's four-month-old son. He then peeped inside their house to see Neetu lying on the bed and Ram Chandra hanging from the ceiling fan, a police officer said.
"Prima facie, it appears that Chandra first strangulated his wife over some argument and then committed suicide. No suicide note was found from the spot," the officer said.
Neetu's mother also stays with the couple. She, along with her three-year-old grandson, had gone to her younger son's home nearby, the officer said.
"Ram Chandra worked as a driver in a power company and had been staying in the rented accommodation from last three years. The couple got married four years ago," he said.
"Chandra was a native of Uttar Pradesh's Agra. We are waiting for the postmortem examination report of the deceased," the officer added.
Mohan Singh, uncle of Chandra, told IANS: "The couple was happy. Their financial condition was also good. We do not know why Chandra took the extreme step."
