A 35-year-old man was killed for objecting to liquor being served to his monkeys, police said Wednesday. The accused has been arrested.

Ram Babu alias Ghochu Pehelwan, 36, was arrested Tuesday from his hideout here for killing Irfan, a 'bandarwala' (street performer with monkeys).

During interrogation Babu, who works as a labourer in the parcel area at the New Delhi railway station, told police that he was loitering Aug 14 outside the parcel area in search of alcohol.

In the meantime Irfan arrived there with his monkeys, Babu said.

"Both arranged alcohol and started drinking. After they were drunk, Babu started serving liquor to Irfan's monkeys to which Irfan objected strongly," said a police officer.

"Soon a scuffle broke out between the two. During the fight Babu hit Irfan on his head with a brick. When Irfan fell unconscious, Babu fled the spot,'' the officer added.

Irfan was found unconscious in the parcel area Aug 15. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
