A man was shot dead by Maoists in Odisha's Malkangiri district Friday, police said.
The body of Sarat Khara, 40, with bullet marks was found outside his house in Panasput village, over 700 km from here, superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra told IANS.
Khara was dismissed from his Home Guard job last year on the charge of engaging in criminal activities, the police official said.
The rebels had kidnapped Khara from his home Thursday night and later killed him as they suspected him to be a police informer.
Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha and Malkangiri district is one of their strongholds.
