Maruti extends manufacturing suspension till Tuesday

Maruti Suzuki India Limited on Monday extended for another day the suspension of manufacture of cars at its facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon due to the ongoing Jat agitation, a company spokesperson said.

The company on Saturday temporarily suspended the manufacture of cars.

"Due to the agitation, supplies of certain components have been disrupted. As a consequence, the company had to temporarily suspend manufacture of cars on Saturday," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Due to the Jat agitation in many parts of Haryana, including the worst-hit Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Sonipat, many workers of the Maruti Suzuki plants have remained absent.

"The company management has decided to suspend work till A shift on Tuesday. A shift is from 6.30 a.m. till noon. Workers have been informed through SMS," workers' union leader Kuldeep Janghu told IANS.

The combined output from Manesar and Gurgaon is currently about 5,000 vehicles per day.

The company said it was making efforts to arrange components from "other sources".

"Once the supply of components is restored, normal operations will resume," the statement said.
