Hong Kong , Jan. 7 (Xinhua) The funeral of Hong Kong media mogul and philanthropist Run Run Shaw, who had passed away Tuesday aged 107, was held here Friday.

Shaw's family and relatives attended the funeral at the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point, Xinhua reported.

Tung Chee-hwa, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Donald Tsang, former chief executive of Hong Kong, were also among those present.

Shaw's body was moved to the Cape Collinson Crematorium after the service.

A memorial service for Shaw will be held Jan 16 at the Shaw Studio in Clear Water Bay.

Born in Ningbo in China's Zhejiang province, Shaw was Hong Kong's renowned film producer, entertainment industry tycoon and philanthropist.

He established the Shaw Brothers film studio in 1958 in the city and produced more than 1,000 Chinese language films.

Shaw was one of the founding directors of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) in 1967 and executive chairman for 30 years. With his vision and energy, he built the company to become Hong Kong's premier television station. He retired as chairman of the company at the age of 104.

Shaw was enthusiastic about charity and donated more than HK$10 billion (about $1.29 billion), with a large sum going for the support of education in China's mainland.

Shaw also set up the Shaw Prize, known as the Nobel Prize of the East, in 2003 to commend outstanding scientists in the world.
