Aimed at exploring the possibilities with machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop apps and services, Microsoft India on Monday inaugurated the first edition of its two-day "Machine Learning and Data Sciences (ML&DS) Conference" here.

The conference is hosting 600 participants, including data scientists, students, developers, government elites, start-ups, cricketers and Microsoft experts.

"At Microsoft, our ambition is to democratise the access to technologies like Cloud-based services for machine learning, big data and Internet of Things (IoT) so that developers can build, innovate and transform the world with them," Joseph Sirosh, Corporate Vice President of Data Group at Microsoft, said in a statement.

Microsoft also unveiled an Azure machine learning-based approach at the event for calculating target scores in weather-interrupted T20 cricket matches.

It uses machine learning, applies advanced analytics to past data and existing mathematical formulation to derive the outcome.

"We are offering a platform for software developers in India to create solutions that could change the approach to sports administration and sports management," Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt Ltd, added.
