Union Minister Ram Shankar Katheria on Tuesday surrendered before a court here in connection with seven cases registered against him. The court examined Katheria's papers and granted him bail, his lawyer said.

The minister of state for human resource development appeared before the chief judicial magistrate's (CJM) court in connection with cases registered at the Hari Parbat, Nai ki Mandi and GRP Agra Cantt police stations.

CJM Khaliquzzaman accepted Katheria's bail application and granted him leave from personal appearance, according to the minister's lawyer Vijay Ahuja.

The lawyer informed the court that the cases filed against the minister were of "political nature".
