The Punjab Police on Sunday registered a case against a man who fired from his weapon at a wedding, leading to the death of a seven-year-old child and injuries to another.
The incident took place on Saturday night in Kotkapura town, 225 km from here.
The second child injured in the incident was rushed to a hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.
The accused, who opened fire, belongs to Moga town. He has been booked for murder and under the Arms Act. He is yet to be arrested.
People in Punjab and Haryana continue to carry weapons to weddings and other functions and fire from them despite a ban imposed by the authorities. Several lives have been lost over the years due to such incidents.
