Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan has come forward to adopt eight villages in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh under the state government's "smart village" programme.

The corporate social responsibility initiative of the company was launched by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a function here on Thursday.

Under the project, Mitsubishi will provide drinking water, education, health and other facilities to villagers.

M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) will be implementing the project called integrated rural development for improved water, sanitation and livelihood with the help of the Japanese firm.

The aim of the project is to bring the communities and government departments together for accelerated socio-economic development through enhancement of communication networks and resources and easing the administrative processes

Mitsubishi officials, Consul General of Japan Seiji Baba, MSSRF founder M.S. Swaminathan and public representatives of the district attended the function.

Thanking Mitsubishi for adopting the villages, Naidu said his vision was to provide infrastructure and amenities of the cities in rural areas. He said the technology can be used to improve the amenities in villages.

On this occasion, Naidu discussed with renowned agricultural scientist Swaminathan on how his organisation can help the state.
