A mob torched a truck carrying cattle to the Kashmir Valley in Ramban district of Jammu region, police said on Thursday.
"The driver of the truck escaped while the mob set free the cattle and torched the truck late on Wednesday. We have registered an FIR and investigations are on," a police officer said.
Reports from the area said the truck was carrying milch cattle and some calves when a group of cow vigilantes stopped the truck and instead of handing it over to police, decided to set it on fire.
It was not confirmed by the police whether or not the driver had permission required for transportation of milch cattle.
