Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to Gopal Krishna Gokhale on his birth anniversary.
In a tweet, Modi remembered Gokhale as a "remarkable freedom fighter and social reformer".
"Gopal Krishna Gokhale was a great personality; a remarkable freedom fighter and social reformer. Tributes to him on his birth anniversary," he said.
Gokhale, born on May 9, 1866 was a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and founder of the Servants of India Society.
He is described as one of the founding leaders of India's independence movement.
