New Delhi, April 18 (IANS) Two Indian films - "Monsoon Shootout" and "Bombay Talkies" - have been selected for screening at the forthcoming 66th Cannes International Film Festival, where India is the guest country.
The festival is scheduled to take place in Cannes, France, May 15-26 and the two films will be screened in two different sections. While "Monsoon Shootout" will be part of Midnight Screening, "Bombay Talkies" will be showcased at the Gala Screening, said a press statement on the official website of the film festival.
Amit Kumar's "Monsoon Shootout" is the story of a rookie Indian cop, who faces a suspected gangster in a dead-end and has to decide whether to shoot him or not. Three separate scenarios explore the impact of his decision on other people's lives.
Co-produced by Martijn de Grunt, Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga, the film features Vijay Verma, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tannishtha Chatterjee.
"Bombay Talkies", a bouquet of four stories, directed by four directors - Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar - is a tribute to the 100 years of Indian cinema.
Actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Katrina Kaif, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui would be seen playing key roles in the short stories.
Baz Luhrmann directed "The Great Gatsby", starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, will be the opening film, which will also see Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan in a special role.
