Female voters edged past their male counterparts in exercising their franchise in 25 constituencies of West Bengal that witnessed polling in the first four phases of the Lok Sabha polls in the state, an Election Commission official said.
Out of the state's total 62,468,988 electors, 47.99 percent are women. For the first four phases 36,851,626 were eligible to cast their votes.
In the four phases, 82.75 percent of eligible male voters exercised their franchise, while figures for females were 82.86 percent, an official told reporters here.
In the last phase May 12, 17 parliamentary constituencies will witness polling, including the Kolkata South seat - the largest by area and number of electorate.
