With Indore and Bhopal declared the top two cleanest cities in the country and as many as 21 cities of Madhya Pradesh featuring in the list of 100 most clean Indian cities, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is a happy man.

Writing in his blog on Thursday night, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude towards the people of the state for making this happen.

Chouhan wrote: "Indore has emerged as the cleanest city in 'Swachh Survekshan-2017' while capital Bhopal has been ranked second. Besides, 21 cities have been listed among the 100 cleanest cities of the country. This is a matter of great pleasure for me."

Hailing the people's participation in the cleanliness drive, he wrote: "This rare feat achieved by the state is an outcome of an honest joint effort of the people. The momentum needs to be maintained, so that Madhya Pradesh soon becomes the cleanest state of India."

The Chief Minister said a campaign called "Hamara Shahar Number One" (My City Number One) had been launched in the state and was yielding good results.

"We have set the target to make all 379 cities/towns open defacation-free (this) year. While 194 cities have already been declared open defacation-free, the work is going on for the rest," Chouhan added.
