From Saturday, Mumbai Metro One trains will run at the top speed of 80 kmph following a green signal from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, an official said on Wednesday.
This will entail a saving of around half a minute per round trip, an official spokesperson said.
Since inauguration two years ago, it operated at 50 kmph and climbed up to 65 kmph from March 24 this year. The speed will be 80 kmph from July 2.
With an average daily ridership of 3.20 lakh commuters, it touched a new high of 3.36 lakh on June 28 while maintaining a punctuality rate of 99.99 percent.
