Mumbai school kids get lessons on saving energy

Around 150,000 students in 200 schools here will undergo training to learn energy conservation as part of a Reliance Infrastructure sponsored programme, a company spokesperson said here Tuesday.

The Young Energy Savers (YES) programme will help spread awareness among the students' families and sensitise over 700,000 consumers by the year end.

In its fifth year, the YES programme aims to promote energy conservation and judicious usage of electricity among children and their families.

This will not only help to reduce environment pollution by reducing carbon footprint, but also reduce their electricity bills by almost seven percent.

Reliance Infrastructure is also targeting to reduce 50 metric tonnes of carbon footprint by the year-end.

"It is the only utility to have entered the Guinness World Records when it brought together the largest congregation of school children dressed as trees last year," the company spokesperson said.

Conceived in 2009, YES boasts of a Facebook following of close to 150,000 people.
