The Muslim community has decided to help the farmers of drought-hit regions of Maharashtra by offering monetary relief as part of Bakri Eid celebrations.

The initiative by Social Education and Welfare Association (SEWA) will see the participation of clerics, intellectuals, NGOs and volunteers who will tour the worst-hit districts of Beed, Latur and Osmanabad, said the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) president, Aamir Edresy.

"Maharashtra is facing the worst drought in five decades with a never before seen level of water scarcity. Farmers are either migrating or committing suicide. The farmers feed us, but today they are reeling for food. It is our duty to come ahead and support them," Edresy said.

SEWA will provide all types of help, including financial and moral, said Hazrat Maulana Moin Miyas at a preparatory workshop here.
