Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari suffered a brain stroke and paralytic attack in New Delhi on Wednesday after which he was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket, his family members said.
According to a statement issued by the family, Tiwari suffered brain stroke around 9.45 a.m. while having breakfast.
"He also suffered paralytic attack in the right part of his body. He was immediately rushed to South Delhi's Max Hospital," said the statement.
The 91-year-old leader is being monitored by doctors and will be under observation for the next four days.
His son Rohit Shekhar and wife Ujjwala are by his side at the hospital.
The veteran leader, who also served as Union Minister in successive Congress governments, as Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Andhra Pradesh Governor, is under the treatment of senior neurosurgeon J.D. Mukherjee and senior cardiologist Sumit Sethi.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav have spoken to the family on phone and assured of all help, if needed, Rohit Shekhar informed.
He said that the doctors who were treating Tiwari in Lucknow are also in touch with their Delhi counterparts.
