It was a great week for Swiss Timea Bacsinszky as she reached premier mandatory final for the first time after defeating eighth-seeded Ana Ivanovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in China Open womem's singles semifinal here on Saturday.
Bacsinszky's road to semifinal was not easy as she came through three-setter after three-setter, reported Xinhua.
This match with Ivanovic was another three-set win after which she reached her first WTA premier mandatory final. This win will also make her crack the world's top 10 on next Monday.
"It's just amazing. I never thought to be able to reach it. I wasn't even thinking of (those milestones) actually. I was just all the time thinking about improving tennis wise and having fun, trying to give my best at practice and while I'm playing in every circumstances," Bacsinszky said.
"I'm just super proud. I think I'm not realising it right now, to be honest, because I'm still playing the tournament. There's a huge match also tomorrow to play."
This win came over a brittle, anxious and emotional Ivanovic, who admitted to wanting the win a little too much. The loss is the Serb's second straight in the China Open semifinals and rules her out of the race to secure a remaining position at the WTA Finals in Singapore.
