The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) on Thursday said its Class 10 and 12 examinations would not be postponed beyond this month but announced 50 per cent reduction in prescribed syllabi for setting question papers.
Ruling out any postponement, BOSE Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Chatt told reporters here that the board had decided to reduce the prescribed syllabi for setting question papers for the forthcoming 10th and 12th class exams by 50 per cent.
He said that instead of the standard practice of having to compulsorily attempt questions from each of the four sections of the question paper, the examinees would now get open choice to attempt any 50 per cent questions, except in language papers like English, Urdu, Hindi and others, wherein the question papers are not spread over sections.
The chairman said the board had no information about any intending examinees languishing in the jail and as such, the question of conducting exams for such students in the jail did not arise.
About an injured student desirous of sitting in these exams, the chairman said such an examinee can be assisted by a helper, under the rules of the board, who can write exam papers for an injured examinee.
Many students and parents had been demanding postponement of these exams to March next year since schools in the Kashmir Valley have remained closed for four months because of the ongoing unrest. Many schools have also been burnt down.
