Shillong Lajong have signed-up Zambian footballer and African Cup winner Isaac Chansa, who will be playing for the club's Guwahati-based Indian Super League (ISL) franchise NorthEast United.
The club also confirmed Friday that their Trinidadian star Cornell Glen will be joining the NorthEast United ranks. Both Glen and Chansa have been cleared by the ISL organising committee to be the designated international players for NorthEast United.
Chansa a key member of the 2012 African Cup of Nations winning Zambian side, last played for Zambian Premier League club side Zanaco FC last season before making his move to India. He has also featured previously for clubs such as Helsingborgs IF in the Swedish Top Division and Orlando Pirates in the South African Premier Soccer League.
Chinese Super League Side Henan Jianye FC secured his services from Orlando Pirates in 2012 for a total deal value of a little over $1 million.
"I am happy and looking forward to this new challenge. I will do my best to contribute in the team's success in any way I can and repay the faith shown in me by the team management," said Chansa.
Bollywood actor-producer John Abraham, co-owner of NorthEast United and Lajong FC, said he was happy to have both Chansa and Glen on board for the ISL which will be held in October-December.
"To get an African Cup of Nations winner and a World Cupper brings in a lot of experience and competitive edge to the team. We are happy to have secured their services and looking forward to having them play for the teams," he said.
