The Himachal Pradesh High Court Tuesday directed the government to file reply within four weeks to a public interest litigation (PIL) over upgrading schools that don't have requisite infrastructure.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Kuldip Singh passed the orders on the PIL taken up by the court as suo moto on a letter written by Ashok Kumar from Hamirpur to the chief justice.
Kumar said many schools without proper infrastructure like playgrounds and toilets have been upgraded by successive governments.
"Upgrading schools without following the due procedure is like playing with the children's future," he wrote.
The court, while issuing notice to the chief secretary, principal secretary (education) and directors of higher education and elementary education, listed the case for next hearing Jan 6.
