Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced an additional financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for the flood-ravaged Kerala.
The amount would be sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF). This is in addition to the 5 crore sanctioned earlier, said a release from Chief Minister's Office.
Besides, Patnaik also ordered 500 MT of polythene sheets worth about Rs 8 crore to be sent to Kerala.
Two-hundred forty-four (244) Fire Service Personnel trained in rescue operations with 65 rescue boats and other equipments have already been sent to Kerala to help in the rescue operations.
The Chief Minister stated that people of Odisha stand by the flood affected people of Kerala at this hour of severe distress.
He expressed deep condolences for the lives lost.
"Odisha knows what a natural calamity of this magnitude means to the common man," said Patnaik.
He has further directed the Relief Commissioner of Odisha to remain in touch with the authorities and extend all the help to the people from Odisha stranded in Kerala.
The Labour Department of Odisha has already rushed officials to Kerala to ensure the safety of Odia labourers affected by floods.
