Odisha Saturday signed a pact with a not-for-profit industry body here to promote its capital Bhubaneswar as one of the most preferred business destinations.

Pitabasa Sahoo, member, town and regional planning of the state-run Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Shyam Sundar S. Pani, president, Global Initiative for Restructuring Environment and Management (GIREM), signed the pact.

"Bhubaneswar, as a city, has many inherent advantages. It is amongst the fastest growing cities in the country with low pollution level besides a major centre for healthcare and higher education, etc," BDA vice chairman Vishal K. Dev said.

"Through this partnership with GIREM, we aim at building upon these advantages to make Bhubaneswar a leading investment destination for the services sector in the country," he said.

"This memorandum of understanding (MoU) is based on the mutual desire to promote Bhubaneswar by creating a sustainable business eco-systems and social infrastructure through private sector's participation," Pani said.

"We strongly believe the city can host a diverse and dynamic range of businesses and that is one of the main reasons that will help the city facilitate great investments. The MoU also aims to derive the fullest benefit of the changing economic environment to create 100,000 jobs in information technology sector in the next seven years," he said.
