Odisha to implement CCTNS in police stations by March 2017

The Odisha government on Saturday said the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) would be made operational in all police stations by March 2017.

Home Secretary Asit Tripathy said all 534 police stations along with Director General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police's offices would be connected through CCTNS.

"The crime and criminal records would be in a digitised form which would facilitate crime investigation and tracking," he said.

The system has ten major components and there has been substantial progress in eight components. The system would be functional in all police stations by March 2017, said a release.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, who presided over the State Apex Committee meeting here, directed to make the CCTNS more citizen-centric incorporating common service delivery based online applications.

He also directed a list be prepared of the services to be delivered online through CCTNS and put in place required IT applications for the purpose.

He advised Director General of Police K.B Singh to make suitable in-house arrangements for deriving maximum benefits out of the system, particularly in the matters of investigation of the crime, expeditious tracking, prosecution, and enforcement.

While Rs 35.36 crore has been received from Union Government for the project, the expenditure has been around 90 per cent. The state government has provided Rs 14.61 crore for additional features and citizen centric services against which utilisation has been to the tune of 76 per cent, said the release.
