Goa earned Rs.189 crore from offshore casinos over the last three years, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the legislative assembly Thursday.
The biggest contributors to the state government kitty are the offshore casinos run by Highstreet Cruises and Entertainment Private Limited, operated by a business group promoted by casino tycoon Jaydev Mody.
Goa has four offshore casinos anchored in the Mandovi river off Panaji, and nearly a dozen onshore casinos.
The Goa home department, which levies licence and operation fees on the casinos, benefited by over Rs.79 crore and the commercial tax department by Rs.110 crore from 2010 to 2013.
