A trooper of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force was killed and another was injured on Friday in a shootout between security forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur in Bastar district.
Inspector General of Police for Bastar Range Sunderaj P. said a team of Chhattisgarh Armed Force was ambushed at Cherli village in Jagdalpur district early on Friday while they were on a road safety operation.
"Firing ensued for nearly an hour during which a constable of the 10th battalion Hemant Kumar died on the spot while another constable Subba Rao was grievously injured," Sunderaj said.
The injured trooper was taken to Jagdalpur Medical College by helicopter.
Meanwhile, police were conducting a search operation in the forest near Cherli.
