With the heat wave continuing unabated in the state capital and other parts of the state, the schools in the city will now re-open after the summer recess July 7, officials said Monday.
District magistrate of Lucknow, Raj Shekhar Sunday ordered extension of the summer vacations by another week, keeping in mind the "extreme heat wave conditions and delayed monsoons".
"The decision has been taken in view of the welfare of the school-going children," the district magistrate told IANS.
The order includes all schools -- government and private, from class I to class XII.
The district administration has ordered closure of schools till July 5. Since July 6 is a Sunday, the schools will technically reopen July 7. They were initially to re-open after a two-month-long summer break Tuesday -- July 1.
The district administration also said that in case there was no let up in the heat conditions by July 7, it might go in for a furthr extension.
Lucknow, like most parts of the state is reeling under severe heat wave conditions, with temperatures touching up to 46 degrees celsius. With heavy humidity in the past and the rains deserting the city for now, the condition has only worsened. Power outages has also added to the woes.
