Pakistan committed to DGMOs' meet on border peace

Pakistan said Wednesday it remains committed to implementing the decision of the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers that the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) should meet to ensure peace on the border.

The DGMOs of the two countries contacted each other Oct 25 and 29, the spokesperson of Pakistan's ministry of foreign affairs said during a press briefing.

"You would recall that the two DGMOs had contact Oct 25 and 29, 2013, and concurred to normalise the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary."

"A sectoral flag meeting was also held between Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force Oct 29 and both sides agreed to observe ceasefire and resolve issues through local level flag meetings," the spokesperson said.

"Pakistan remains committed to implementing the decision of the two prime ministers that the DGMOs should meet to address the issues of ceasefire violations on the LoC," he said.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif during their meeting in New York Sep 29 agreed that their DGMOs should meet to ensure peace and tranquillity on the border and observe the ceasefire agreement signed in November 2003.

On Tuesday, the Pakistani prime minister's foreign affairs advisor Sartaj Aziz held a bilateral meeting with India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid. The two sides again agreed to push for the meeting between their DGMOs.

India has said that peace and tranquillity on the border is the precondition for forward movement in their bilateral dialogue.
