It was a day to celebrate for Pakistan, as three of their athletes taking part in the Special Olympics here grabbed medals on Wednesday.
The nation's first gold medal came in the 100 metre freestyle swimming event as Asim Zar emerged victorious.
Zar became the first Pakistani to clinch a gold medal in Special Olympics history, according to arynews.tv and dawn.com.
The 27-year-old turned out to be a star at the 2007 Special Olympics in China too clinching two silver medals in the 400 metre race and long jump.
Diagnosed with autism at the age of three, Asim joined Special Olympics Pakistan 20 years ago.
The other medals were won by Aqsa Ahmed Janjua who pocketed the silver in 50 metres women's freestyle relay, while Salman Siddiqui clinched the bronze medal in 500 metres time trial cycling.
