Part of Delhi Metro's Pink Line -- envisaged to connect Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar -- will open for the public from March 14 onwards, the transporter announced on Friday.
Metro service on the 21.56-km Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus corridor would be formally flagged off by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 14 at 4 p.m. from Metro Bhawan, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement said.
"Passenger services on the stretch will begin from 6 p.m. the same day from the Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus stations simultaneously," it added.
Earlier, the length of the stretch was conveyed to be 20.6 km by the DMRC, which it later corrected to 21.56 km, after also taking into account the side tracks.
The segment constitutes over a third of the entire 58-km stretch and has 12 stations, including three interchange stations at Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place and Rajouri Garden.
The three interchange stations will connect commuters with Yellow Line (Huda City Centre-Samaypur Badli) at Azadpur, Red Line (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) at Netaji Subhash Place and with Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre) at Rajouri Garden.
Encircling almost the entire Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road), the line, once complete, will be beneficial to a large number of commuters -- especially those living in localities along Ring Road like Punjabi Bagh, Wazirabad and Shalimar Bagh, which are so far unconnected with any direct Metro service going towards south Delhi.
