Former President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday greeted Vice President-elect M. Venkaiah Naidu on his victory and reminded him that it was an "onerous constitutional responsibility".
"Please accept my good wishes on your election as the Vice President of India.
"As you take on this onerous constitutional responsibility that includes chairing the Rajya Sabha, I hope and pray that you succeed in your endeavours and continue to serve the people of our great country," said Mukherjee in a letter to Naidu.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Naidu was on Saturday elected the next Vice President of India, defeating opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi by 272 votes.
