Heavy rain in many parts of Delhi disrupted arrangements for listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech live in a number of government schools.

The rain began soon after Modi started his speech at the Manekshaw Centre here from where it was telecast on Doordarshan.

The schools were asked to make arrangements to witness the live telecast and subsequent interaction with students.

Modi's speech started at 3:15 p.m. and lasted over an hour. The rain, which began at the same time continued for at least two hours.

"Our teachers asked us to go back home and watch the whole speech as the rain started because the arrangements were made in an open lawn with no shed," Kaushik, a class 7 student of a Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, told IANS.

Students at a municipal school located in east Delhi could not manage to watch the telecast due to the heavy downpour.

"The rain was so heavy that we could not arrange it in the open. The classes are small and to accommodate the large number of students was impossible," said a teacher of the school.

The school had earlier approached a local cable operator to arrange for a TV set.

Meanwhile, a few schools had a good number of students who were full of enthusiasm while hearing the prime minister.
