Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin in Telangana on Thursday as the moon was sighted on Wednesday, Moon Sighting Committee announced.

Although weather in Hyderabad was cloudy, the committee made the announcement after receipt of information from some parts of Telangana.

Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed announced that Thursday would be the first day of fasting month.

Sirens blared from mosques across Hyderabad to announce sighting of moon.

Arrangements have begun for "namaz-e-taraveeh", special prayers offered every night throughout the month.
