Record entries for Bangalore badminton meet

A staggering 1,200 entries have been received for the Union Bank of India-sponsored All India Junior Ranking Badminton tournament the under-17 and under-19 categories that will get underway here on August 5.

The tournament is being conducted by Padukone Sports Management under the aegis of Karnataka Badminton Association and Badminton Association of India, offering prize-money of Rs.5 Lakhs.

The qualifying rounds will be held on Aug 5-6 and the main draw will commence on Aug 7 with the final slated for Aug 10.

The tournament will feature Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles (only U-19) events in the U-17 and U-19 categories.

The top junior players of the country Aditya Joshi, Harsheel Dani, Arun George, in the Under-19 category, Karnataka's Daniel Farid (Under-17) Siril Varma and Rahul Yadav are some of the prominent players participating in this event.

In the girls section, Karnataka's Reshma Karthik is the top seed while talented Rituporna Das (WB) and Shreyanshi Pardeshi (MP) will also be seen in action.

Yonex, the top Badminton equipment manufacturer will be supplying shuttlecocks for the tournament.
