Reliance Defence & Engineering (RDEL) has won a contract for the refit of three naval warships at its facility at Pipavav in Gujarat, sources said. The value of the order is pegged at Rs 300 crore.
The refit of the three warships -- identified as survey ship INS Jamuna, fleet tanker INS Deepak and patrol vessel INS Savitri -- is expected to be completed by April next year. According to sources, the first refit will get completed shortly.
The latest order comes close on the heels of the Anil Ambani Group company bagging a Rs 920-crore contract for building 14 fast patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard to primarily assist in anti-smuggling and anti-terrorism operations.
