The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the DDA to remove illegal encroachment on public land at the Priyadarshini Vihar area of east Delhi within two weeks.
Tension had erupted on Tuesday when police and DDA officials tried to demolish an unauthorisedly constructed temple.
Justice Manmohan directed the DDA to demolish the encroachment from the area pursuant to a 2007 order of the high court in which a direction was given to demolish illegal encroachments including the temple.
The court asked the DDA and police to file a compliance report within two weeks while hearing a contempt plea on non-compliance of the 2007 order and posted the matter for November 16.
The court also slammed the police and DDA for its failure to take any action on illegal encroachment despite a lapse of eight years.
On Tuesday, residents of the area prevented police and DDA from entering the property for execution of the court's order and also damaged several buses in protest.
