Congress hit out at Minister of State for External Affairs V. K. Singh's proposal to rename Akbar Road after Maharana Pratap, saying this was the "job of the municipal corporation and these parliamentarians should have got elected to corporation bodies".
Singh had written to the government asking to rename Akbar Road in Lutyens Zone after Maharana Pratap.
"Some ministers in this government have a strange tension, they want to rename the roads. Somebody asks them that if they were so interested in renaming roads, why they get elected to parliament, why are they running the central government? That is the job of the municipal corporation," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
"They should have got elected to the municipal corporation. There is a tokenism mind-set, a frivolous mind-set which is not able to grapple with the complexities and challenges of governance," he added.
Last year, the government had renamed Aurangzeb Road after former president late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
