CPI-M leader M.B. Rajesh on Wednesday said Hyderabad Central University student Rohith Vemula's death was an "institutional murder".

"Rohith's death is an institutional murder. Insulting statements were issued against him," the Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader from Kerala's Palakkad district made the observation during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the ongoing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) row.

He said that evidence was being "fabricated" against JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar.

"The home minister (Rajnath Singh) was quick to believe a fake tweet. The background in one of Kanhaiya's photographs was photoshopped, the video of his speech was morphed. Evidence is being fabricated against Kanhaiya," Rajesh said.
