"Sachin is a great batsman. I was surprised that he chose to retire. He still had it in him to carry on for a few more years," said Hanif, who is here with his grandson for the third and final ODI between India and Pakistan Sunday.

He lauded the Pakistani side for winning the three-match series.

"It pleases me that Pakistan are doing well. The bowlers are in great from and it is a very good sign for Pakistan cricket," added the 78-year-old.
