Satellite images showcase Indian, Chinese delta

Marrying art and science, a unique exhibition of digital prints here showcases how landscapes change in the deltaic regions of China and India through the use of Google Maps satellite images.

The ongoing exhibition "Envisioning Asia's Old Deltas in the Age of Satellites" by American urban designer Victoria Marshall at Studio21 here highlights the influence of deltas - Yangtze in China and the Ganga in India - on landscapes.

Marshall is the assistant professor of urban design at Parsons, the New School for Design at New York.

According to Manas Acharya, the coordinator of the studio, there are 17 framed digital prints of satellite images with coloured highlights.

"How the deltas have changed the landscape and also influenced the lives of people in those areas in terms of development can be seen through coloured highlights," Acharya told IANS Friday.

"Her works will shed new light on those river systems that have wound their way on the southern and eastern Asian subcontinent for centuries," Acharya said.

Curated by Keyang Tang of Beijing, the exhibition will be on till Nov 27.
