Selfies and selfie sticks are increasingly becoming a menace - so much so that selfie obsessed people often put others' lives in danger.
Recently, a roller-coaster ride at Disneyland in California had to be stopped in its tracks because of a passenger's obsession with selfies, CBS News reported.
Riders on California Screamin' began tweeting the incident as they were stopped at the top of the thrill coaster before the drop because someone had pulled out a selfie stick.
Although the ride resumed within a few minutes, according to officials, it did cause some inconvenience to other passengers and also put their safety at risk.
The visitors to the amusement park are supposed to store all their belongings while the ride is in progress, according to Disneyland officials. Selfie sticks were banned from the park in May.
"We have become so consumed with ourselves that we cannot walk more than a handful of paces without tending to the overwhelmingly self-centred activities encased in those little devices - the Facebook posts, the super important email, the search for the emoji juste," John Dickerson, political director of CBS News, said in an article.
He said that often people are so consumed with their technology they put themselves and others in danger.
"We forget that we are annoying the rest because we do not give a damn about mankind."
