A senior Al Qaeda leader was killed Sunday in a US drone attack in Pakistan's mountainous region of North Waziristan, sources said.
The drone fired two missiles at a compound in Dattakhel's Khat Tangi area, killing five militants and injuring three, Dawn online reported citing sources.
The leader, identified as Umer Farooq alias Umer Ustad and Ustad Farooq, was serving as Al Qaeda's spokesperson for South Asia since 2009 and was the operational incharge of the terror group for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
However, Pakistan military officials said the media reports regarding the drone strike inside Pakistani territory were not true.
The Pakistan military's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) also has denied reports that the drone strike took place.
Sunday's strike comes a day after the Pakistan military confirmed the killing of another Al Qaeda leader, Adnan Shukrijumah, in a raid at a compound in South Waziristan.
North and South Waziristan tribal districts near the Afghan border are rife with insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives, among others.
