At least seven soldieres were killed after Shiite rebels attacked army posts in Yemen's Amran province Wednesday, military sources said.
In the past two days, the rebels have attacked military posts in Bani Maimoon and al-Mihshash areas of the province, about 50 km from capital Sana'a. It broke a ceasefire deal mediated by UN envoy to Yemen, Jamal Benomar, earlier this month between the rebels and the government, Xinhua quoted the officials as saying.
The rebels did not give detail of their toll, if any.
On June 4, the Yemeni government had reached a ceasefire agreement with the Shiite Houthi rebels, ending months of sporadic fighting in Amran province.
The Shiite rebels agreed to halt reinforcements and end large armed gatherings in the province, and the government forces will secure checkpoints and main highways.
In last two months, the Shiite rebels overran several districts of Amran, as well as Juhaif Mountain and several villages of Hamdan area, after weeks-long battles with tribesmen and government soldiers. Over 100 people were killed in the conflicts.
