Senior separatist leader and chairman of Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Shah Thursday condemned the brutal attack on Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani jail which resulted in his death.
Shah was addressing a media conference here. "Such an incident should not have taken place inside a jail," he said.
"Pakistan should take action against the attackers so that such an incident is not repeated," he said, while replying a question on Sarabjit Singh during the media conference.
The senior separatist leader also criticised the state government for imposing curbs on the movements of the separatist leaders.
"It is our democratic right to appeal to people not to take part in the elections. The people are the final judges to decide, but the government is showing its undemocratic and cruel face by incarcerations of separatists and harassments of the youths," he alleged.
Shah also accused the state police for alleged detention of minors under the harsh Public Safety Act (PSA).
A person can be detained under PSA for a period extending up to two years without any trial.
Sarabjit Singh, who was admitted to a Lahore hospital April 26 after being savagely attacked in jail, died early Thursday. He had suffered serious head injuries and had been on ventilator support since then.
Sarabjit Singh had been on a death row in Pakistan since 1990 after being convicted by Pakistani courts for bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that left 14 people dead.
