Engineering devices manufacturer Siemens India on Wednesday inaugurated a digitalised low-voltage switchgear factory in Thane district in Maharashtra.
LOcated at Kalwa town, the factory is estimated to manufacture over five million switchgear devices that come in 180 variants annually at the rate of one product every nine seconds, the company said in a statement.
"With the launch of the showcase digitalised factory in India, we further deepen our ties with a country in which we have a very strong presence," said Karlheinz Kaul, CEO, Control Products, Digital Factory, Siemens AG, in a statement.
"The 'SIRIUS' range of switchgear products that will be manufactured here requires a very high degree of precision and quality at global standards that can be achieved only through digitalisation," he added.
The company expects the production methods deployed at the plant to set a benchmark for small and medium-sized manufacturing units in the country.
"The need for localising global products and adapting them to the local conditions has been the priority at Siemens in India," said Ashish Bhat, Executive Vice-President and Head, Digital Factory, Siemens Limited.
The factory has implemented end-to-end digitalisation across its value chain.
