At least six people were killed and 18 others wounded in separate violent attacks across the Iraqi capital of Baghdad Monday, a police source said.

The deadliest attack occurred around noon when a car bomb went off near a crowd gathered outside a police station in Bob al-Sham neighbourhood in northeastern Baghdad, leaving at least three killed and 15 wounded, the source told Xinhua.

The civilians were lining up at the station, following new security measures to avoid violence in the area, to get their badges for entering their neighbourhood, the source said.

In a separate incident, gunmen using silenced weapons shot dead a government employee in the Shiite neighbourhood of Amil in southwestern Baghdad, the source added.

A sticky bomb attached to a civilian car detonated in Doura district in the southern part of Baghdad, killing the driver and wounding a civilian, the source said, adding that another bomb exploded in a car in Husseiniyah district in northern part of the capital, killing the driver and wounding two passersby.

Iraq is witnessing its worst eruption of violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, almost 7,000 Iraqis were killed and over 16,000 others injured from January to October this year.
