At least six people were killed when a building under construction collapsed in Bangladesh's Bagerhat district, media reported Thursday.
Many construction workers are feared trapped under the debris of the milling house of army-managed Mongla Cement Factory, bdnews24.com reported, citing officals.
The roof of the building gave in around 1 p.m. on Thursday, reports said.
A fire service official said that six bodies were recovered from the scene until midnight.
Officials feared that over 50 construction workers were trapped "alive or dead" under the debris, while more than 50 others were injured.
Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam said that over 100 workers were building the roof of the four-storey milling house in the morning.
"The roof collapsed sometime between 1 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. Many workers were trapped under centring pipes, rods and casting materials," he added.
Earlier, a Mongla police official said that around 100 workers were wounded in the accident.
The navy, coastguard and fire service personnel launched a rescue operation immediately after the accident.
The bodies of four workers were sent to the Mongla Port Hospital, and three of them were identified.
Over 50 injured workers were admitted to Mongla Port Hospital and the Khulna Medical College and Hospital.
One of the injured workers, Golam Mostafa, said 50-60 workers were working on the roof of the third floor of the building and some others on the ground floor when the roof caved in.
