Six members of a family, including four children, were found dead in the holy town of Tarapith in West Bengal's Birbhum district Thursday, police said.
The victims - a married couple from Patna and their daughters - had apparently consumed pesticide, said police sources.
The bodies were recovered from a room in a guest house in the district, about 216 km from Kolkata.
A suicide note was found.
A sweeper, who had gone to the room in the morning for cleaning it up, found the bodies.
Senior police officers went to the spot. An inquiry has been initiated.
